When she finally relents, And nestles in to hold me close, Resting all her troubles Upon my shoulder, The weight of her head, The grasp of her fingers, Her rapid thumping heart On me, becomes us. Her sadness soaks in, And I will hold it all, And her and more, And anything she needs. The deeper breaths, in gasps Relent to quiet sated hearts, As torment cedes to silence Stilled in our love. She is home, Here. We are at peace, Together. And we move on, To slides and books and stones and chasing.
